What do verbs like rise, improve and recover have in common? They can be used to describe performance.
To rise means to move from a lower position to a higher one.
Example: We expect sales to rise in the month of December.
To improve means to make something become better.
Example: The students are improving with every choir practice.
To increase means to become bigger in size or volume.
Example: We have increased the size of our order.
To recover means to return to a normal state or level.
Example: Sales will recover over the next few months.
To decrease means to grow smaller in size, number or amount.
Example: Sales decreased by six per cent this month.
To fall means to drop or quickly come down to a lower level.
Example: Revenue will fall over the holidays.
